merknad	Academic titles do not translate well because of misalignment between the Norwegian system and those of other countries, and also because of misalignments between e.g. the American and British system. For instance, the US typically makes a division between 'assistant professor', 'associate professor' and 'full professor'. While holders of all these positions have doctoral degrees, the differences between the three positions are due to the terms of employment (e.g. temporary or tenure) and experience/merits (e.g. the difference between 'associate professor' and 'full professor'). The 'førstelektor/dosent' option is largely unknown outside Norway, but we translate them as types of professor because they have the same status as 'førsteamanuenis/professor'. Similarly, we translate 'høgskolelektor' as 'assistant professor' to communicate the corresponding status of the positions, even though a 'høgskolelektor' does not typically hold a doctoral degree
